Gaming Laptop and a Regular Laptop Difference

Gaming laptops and regular laptops are entirely different in most parts. This is because the users of both laptops are also very different. Whether you talk about design, power or price you will find much difference. Below we will explain the most important differences that you should know to choose the right machine.

Performance

When it comes to buying laptops, performance is the most essential thing. This is because as per your performance requirement, you have to choose between gaming or a normal laptop. For instance, if you want a powerful laptop that can handle everything you throw in it, you will need a gaming laptop.

On the other hand, if you want a device for office work, study purposes, or other casual use it’s better to choose a normal laptop.

Even if you get both laptops with the same gen processor, the performance will be much different. You may get confused here as do most users, but it happens. This is because not all processors from the same gen offer the same performance. In casual laptops, you get a U series processor.

These processors are built to perform decently and consume less power. In comparison, a gaming laptop comes with a H series processor which is designed to provide raw power. To understand this check the last digit of the processor whenever you will buy. It will end with U for regular and H for gaming laptops.

Ram and Memory

Both types of laptops can have the same memory configuration. But RAM configuration is generally different. For instance, you get a minimum of 8GB of RAM, in gaming laptops. Whereas having 4GB of RAM is normal for a budget laptop. There are multiple reasons behind this. The most common reason is that games are heavy as compared to ordinary application and uses more RAM. So it’s better to have more RAM on a gaming device.

Graphics Card

Gaming laptops come with graphics cards. These GPUs start with 4GB of capacity. These are essential to render heavy graphics used in games. On the counterpart, regular laptops don’t need so much GPU power. For this reason, most normal laptops don’t come with GPUs.

Even if they come with GPU, these are less powerful. For instance, 2GB GPU. The rest of the laptops use RAM as an integrated GPU.

Heating Issues

Heating issues are mostly related to gaming laptops as they need more power. Gaming laptops have large fans that stay cool at least they are built to do so. But in reality, most gaming devices heat a lot which makes performance unstable. So it gets essential to check the heat management while checking a laptop.

Portability

Portability is another factor you need to consider while choosing a laptop. A gaming laptop is bulky and huge in design. In contrast, a regular laptop is slim and lightweight. You can select as per your need.

Pricing

Gaming laptops are more expensive as compared to normal laptops. There are various reasons behind this, such as powerful processors, dedicated GPU, refresh rate, etc. Whereas a regular laptop generally costs less. However, this statement doesn’t fit if you compare two different segments of laptops.

Lifespan

It’s time to answer the most iconic question what’s the average lifespan of both laptops? The answer is quite simple. If you take care of your machine properly, it can last 4-5 years easily.

This can go even higher if it is a normal laptop for instance 7-8 years(you need to upgrade some parts). If we talk about gaming laptops specifically, it has less lifespan.

Conclusion – Gaming Laptop vs Regular Laptop

Overall, gaming laptops and ordinary laptops are entirely different. It’s up to you what configurations you need in your machine. For instance, if you need raw power high refresh rate, etc, and don’t care about battery life and portability. You should go with a gaming laptop. Whereas it makes more for a casual user to go with a normal laptop.
